03/05/12 FINAL DAY OF THE FMP

Its the final day, just one hour and 30 minutes until hand in. I have completed most things i wanted to get done, and after lunch i will be preparing my space in the studio, presenting my final piece, PDF folder,  portfolio and journal. Very tired after yesterdays non stop 12 hour work session, finishing pieces off. It will be worth it once its all over, for now to keep motivated and to stay calm.

independent study day wednesday 02/05/12

Last full day doing the FMP, i am excited but at the same time stressed out and very tired. My plan for today is to get my critical review, my risk assessment and final evaluation written up and then to put my A1 sheets in order ready for assessment. I will then look through my PDF and journals to see if there is anything missing. 30 hours to go, be motivated and i will get this work done.

01/05/12 tuesday studio day

Unlike yesterday it is raining and i have started the day in a bad mood and feeling tired. I am feeling the stress of everything, i only have until thursday and still have quite a few things to do which particularly involves lots of things. Last night i made a list of what i want to get done, i want to get everything i need to at uni so i don't have to come in tomorrow, and i can get my portfolio sorted out tomorrow. Motivation and energy needed today.

monday studio day 30/04/12

Monday morning and its sunny outside after raining all weekend the weather has put me in a good mood. Just 3 more days to go until hand in, i made a list last night of things i want to get done today, which is mainly doing journal work and speaking to my tutors about a few questions i have. I am motivated today so lets just hope i get a lot done.

weekend of 27-29th april

I have had to work both days again so every single piece of time i have before and after work has been made use of. Have finished my A1 sheets, which is the main thing over and done with. Over the cause of tomorrow i will be showing my statement to my tutor so that i can email it, sticking in titles etc in my journal and sorting out my PDF folder, by wednesday i want to start putting my A1 sheets in order, just going over anything like pencil marks which may have been left on there and going through my journal to make sure that is all done, so by thursday i can go in and be ready to label up and lay out all of my work. So close to the end, just four more days until hand in.

27/04/12 friday- a bad start to the day

My aim for today was to print my contact sheets off and get them printed at uni so they would be printed to a better quality, however my pen drive has damaged the photographs and i haven't got them on my camera card any more, so the only place i have them is at home. I want to get these printed before the weekend so i could put them onto A1 sheets and write about them, but i will have to wait until tonight now and will have to print them off at home. Today whilst i am at uni i will get my journal work done.

Thursday, 26 April 2012

26/04/12 thursday studio day 7 days to go.

7 days until we hand in all of our work, today i am working on my layout A1 sheets which i plan to finish today, and was planning to print out my contact sheets, however i've realised that i have left most of the photographs at home so can't do this today. My final photographs were delivered today and so i was able to look at the photographs at full scale, and they look really professional, i noticed that i had printed one of the images twice, so i plan to use this also, but cropping it down so it looks a bit different, and it will be placed next to the same image, which will be bigger.

24/04/12 studio day

Now that i have sent off my final photographs to be printed, i can now focus on sticking images into my book and annotating any work. By the end of this project i would like to of completed my second book. I also need to finish off my layout A1 sheet which i was working on before i sent my photographs off.

evening of 23/04/12 a sigh of relief

I managed to send off my prints :) so am very relieved that i have got that out of the way and done with, hopefully i should get it in a weeks time, in time for assessment. Now that i have sorted my prints out i can focus on getting my journal work done, as i have quite a few pages that i have left, and possibly get some more A1 sheets done, but hopefully i won't have to stress out too much, but continue to work until 8:00pm like i have for the majority of the project and hopefully i will succeed.

23/04/12 a stressful day

Today i am creating a canvas using photo shop to put all of my images of different sizes onto here, however because i haven't done this before it is taking longer and i am starting to get a bit stressed out about it. I am asking the technicians for help, so hopefully by the end of the day i would have sent my prints off. Keep calm and carry on.

weekend 21st-22nd april

I didn't gety much done yesterday, i spent about an hour doing work in the morning, before going to work, but today have spent a lot longer, four hours so far and am planning to work up until 9pm tonight. I have managed to annotate my layouts sheets and do the titles on my A1 sheets of the layouts and the photo shoots which i did over the easter holidays. Now that i have had my dinner i am going to write an evaluation in my journal and also do any journal work which needs doing, as i probably won't get to do a lot of this tomorrow as i am planning to send my photographs off to get printed tomorrow. A successful day, just 11 more days to stay motivated!

20/04/12 friday studio day

My aim for today is to experiment with scale, now i have decided on a potential layout i will now see what the layout looks like when i start to play around with different sizes of photographs. If i get this done and my tutors like the layout i will then begin to create a photo board, using photo shop where i will place all of my final photographs of different sizes on here and hopefully today or on monday i will be able to send these photographs off to get printed.

a successful day 19/04/12

Today i was able to carry out all tasks which i set myself to do. I played around with layouts today, and created three different layouts, where i then showed my tutors and they said which one they liked best. My next step to take from here is to figure out the sizes, as i want the photographs to be of different sizes, so i will experiment with this tomorrow. As for tonight i will be doing my daily evaluation in my journal and doing any titles which need to be done and writing my tasks to do for tomorrow.

19/04/12 thursday studio day

Two weeks until i hand in my work. Time is running out, so i made a list last night of things that i want to achieve before i hand in my work. The most important thing at this stage is to experiment with different layouts and sizes of photographs and once i have got that sorted to send off my final photographs to get them printed. Over today and tomorrow this will be my main focus, as well as doing little things such as evaluations on this blog and in my journal. Lots of work ahead for the next few days.

18/04/12 independent study day

Yesterday i was unable to get onto my blog when i got home so i didn't write on here yesterday. I concentrated on getting some journal work done and also choosing my final photographs yesterday. I managed to narrow it down to 36 photographs which are on this blog, but will need to narrow this down to 24 photographs. As final photographs i will be showing three of the four people i photographed. The fourth person i was only able to do a 45 minute shoot with, and didn't have enough strong enough photographs of this person. However showing these 36 images to my tutors they seemed pleased with the photographs i have chosen, and tomorrow and friday i will be playing around with different layouts, and experimenting with scale. This will help me to see which layout and sizes of photographs works best, and i can also document my findings on A1 sheets and in my journal. I haven't been able to get much work done today as i had other commitments, but did manage to do some annotations on my latest A1 sheets.

end of studio day: monday

Today i was able to speak to my tutors, where i showed them what i did over the easter holidays and we discussed what i should do next. They advised me to spend this week sorting out what photographs i think are strong. We spoke about two different ways of presenting the final piece, in a formal way all lined up next to each other which would consist of around eight photographs but would only show one person, or a scattered hanging of around 25 images where i would include three of the people i photographed. I now need to go through all of the images that i have taken throughout this project and choose images which are strong. I will need to narrow it down so i have around 15 photographs if i were to choose the first idea, and 35 photographs if i were to choose the second idea. We also talked about the layout if i were to do the scattered hanging, and i have been asked to create a miniture version of the final photographs once i have sorted out what photographs are strong. I will create this on foam board, which will be the wall and place photographs in different places to see which layout works most effectively, and will do more than just one , perhaps 3 to 5 layouts to show what works and what doesn't work. Tonight i will be doing some A1 sheets which i wasn't able to do over the easter holidays and tomorrow start looking through photographs.

first day back at uni 16/04/12 Monday

My first day back at uni, was not looking forward to today, but now i'm back i can show my tutors the photographs i took over the holidays. I will discuss which photographs i think are strong and talk about whether i should use just one person as a final piece or all four people. Layout will also be key as i need to think about how my work can be presented professionally. I can also buy the materials to create some more a1 sheets, which i will be working on this week. I spent yesterday doing annotations and drawings in my journal and also mounting the contact sheets onto the foam board i did have.

Saturday, 14 April 2012

14/04/12 saturday

I have to start work in a few hours so i only have around 2 hours to do work on this project. I am focusing on sticking in the photographs and contact sheets i printed off yesterday and writing evaluative thoughts about this work. I will also look in my journal to see if there is anything else that i have missed and needs to be stuck in. I am waiting for monday to do the A1 sheets which i have prepared to do as i am unable to get the materials i need until i am back at uni on monday.

photographs from the 12/04/12

This was my final photo shoot which i will do over the easter holidays. I went back to the person that i photographed at the beginning of the project, as i didn't feel they were strong enough images. This time as well as taking photographs of the person i also concentrated on taking photographs of her doing something she is interested in, so in this case it was knitting and reading. I also took photographs of the objects and things around her house that suggest she is disabled, e.g. the chair in her shower and her wheelchair.

A photograph of the book and ball of wall, to suggest what she is interested in before you see the person in the photograph.

Just a piece of the wheelchair, it makes you look closer, and think what might that be a part of?

A full length shot of the wheelchair, showing natural surrounding within her home, however i think that this image could have worked better blurry as it would enable you to look at the photograph for longer, to try and work out what is in the photograph.

The chair in her shower, to show that she is disabled.

An out of focus photograph of the same thing as above, i think this works better as an image than the image above because it is showing the person is disabled, but to realise what the photograph is a picture of you need to look a bit more closer. It can also suggest that disabled people can often be forgotton about.

The wheelchair from the side, it blends in quite well with the background, and the flash that i was using on the camera highlights the metal on the wheels.

the persons hand on the wheel, not just showing the chair, but also showing that someone uses this to get around in.

Showing her in the process of knitting, showing what she enjoys doing.

One showing her face this time, however it would of worked even better if i got more of the wheelchair in.

A slightly out of focus image of the armchair, that this person spends quite a lot of her time sitting in, showing things that are in the background, to learn more about the person.

Another photograph of the person with her hand on the wheelchair, but the image above for me is stronger, as her hand wasn't right at the edge of the photo.

After doing this photo shoot i felt that the photographs were a lot more successful, however i still feel that i have stronger images of other people that i took. When i go back to uni after the easter holidays i will review this with my tutors and friends to ask their opinions.

photographs from 10/04/12

13/04/12

This morning i am at uni getting my photographs printed which i have taken this week and also getting any titles printed onto acetate. A very tight schedule today as i have to work today as well, so i need to work quickly to get everything done that i need to get done. Feeling very tired today so hopefully if i can get everything done i can have an early night. PATIENCE AND ENERGY IS NEEDED TODAY.

Thursday, 12 April 2012

12/04/12

Today i have been taking some photographs of the first person who is disabled, i felt that they came out a lot better, however i still feel that other people i have photographed may be stronger. I have just written out my first draft for my statement which will be exhibited at the end of year show, and will be sending this off to the people who i have photographed and also the photographer i have been working with. Tonight i will be printing off contact sheets and mounting them onto foamboard and tomorrow i will be going into uni to print off images.

Wednesday, 11 April 2012

11/04/12 wednesday

I was able to get quite a but of work done yesterday. I am planning to go into uni on friday where i will be able to print off the photos that i have taken yesterday and the photos i will be taking tomorrow. Today i am focusing on the last of the A1 sheets that need to be finished off and also just sticking in surveys and interview notes into my journal which i did quite a while ago. I am also going to try and buy some foamboard so that the photos i have printed off last week i can stick them onto new A1 sheets.

10/04/12

I have finally got motivated and so far i have been doing work since 10 this morning. I took some photographs today of the man with leprosy, and this time i made sure that i had my camera on the right settings as i had a bit of a problem with the camera in my last photo shoot of the little boy. I thought that they came out well and focused on a few diferent things this time, e.g. i took some shots of him reading and close ups of his hands holding things. The photographs of the cup and saucer worked well last time so i focused on this again but did more close up this time. Now i am home i am doing journal work and preparing what i need to print off at uni and when i will be going in to do this. A good day so far.

Monday, 9 April 2012

09/04/12

Today i haven't done any work as i was with family as it is easter sunday. However tomorrow i will be taking some photographs of the man with leprosy at 11:00am and i am planning to do a couple of hours of book work before i go there tomorrow. Looking through it is just little things i have to do, i touched up on most of my A1 sheets last week and printed some things off when i went into uni last week, so all i really have to do this week is titles in my journal, stick a few things in my journal such as photocopies my blog and do a few pages of drawings in my journal, which won't take me that long to do, and of course taking the rest of my photographs. It has been nice to have a bit of break but from tomorrow onwards i will be doing work until saturday, which will give me four full days to do work.

Easter sunday 08/04/12 a drunken night

Yesterday i was going to do some work before i went to work but i felt so tired i didn't get up until really late so then i didn't have any time to do work and then last night i had a bit of a drunken night and didn't get any sleep last night, but have managed to get a but over this afternoon. Now that i have woken up i am going to annotate the things i did in my journal i stuck in the other day and then make a list of what i need to do for the next week as i have a bit of tomorrow to do work, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday to do a full days work. Just really hope i have enough time, now that i haven't really done much work over the past few days.

good friday- evening 06/03/12

Today i have been working all day and have only just got home after starting at 9 this morning and finishing at 6. It's now 7:00pm and i want to try and get at least an hours work in tonight, even though i am quite tired. I have work tomorrow afternoon so i will use around 3-4 hours tomorrow morning to do this work. Yesterday i went into uni and was able to print everything i wanted to print off, so i will spend tonight sticking these images in my journal, and tomorrow morning doing my journal. I have started to use a diary to work out when i will be doing work over this easter break, as i am finding that i have quite a lot of other commitments during this period, but it is helping me to organise time so when i do go back hopefully i won't be too stressed out. Today i was able to make phone calls to my two other people who i want to take photographs of again, the woman in the wheelchair, and the man with leprosy. I have arranged for photo shoots to take place on tuesday and thursday next week.

photos

This was my second photo shoot of the boy with downs syndrome. I didn't think they came out as well this time round however i still did get a few good ones, but had various different problems with the focus as it was on auto focus and i didn't realise this until near the end when i changed it to manual focus. Some images also came out quite dark.

These are some photographs i took outside, they came out quitr dark and some of them are out of focus, but there is some good experession on his face which makes the photograph natural looking.

These photographs of him playing in the sandpit i thought worked quite well in the previous photo shoot, however this time they were quite blurry as the focus wasn't quite right and a bit over exposed, not showing as much detail as if the photograph was darker. However they are natural and show him playing, showing that he is not aware of me taking photographs.

My tutors suggested that in this shoot i should aim to take more photographs of just objects to show what kind of person i am photographing before showing their face, and also it shows what the person is interested in.

The boy playing with his toys inside the house, where you can also see his mothers hands and his beacer being introduced.

Him drinking out of the beacer, however the images could have been cropped better when taking these photographs, and the flash has created a red eye in one of the photographs.

The beacer, i managed to capture a shot of just his hand holding the beacer showing that he actually uses it and its not just another cup, however it is slightly out of focus, but there is quite a nice shadow behind the beacer that i think works quite well.

The mum being introduced in these photographs, helping him solve a jigsaw. I like the way the hands are in some of these photographs, showing they are working together, and it's more than just one person in the photograph.

The highchair again showing that he is a young child and spends time sitting here at meal times and doing various different activities. I also played around with different focuses to see what worked well and what didn't.

The gate on these stairs suggests a young child and also a safety feature for the little boy.

The bars on his bed i found quite interesting to photograph, as it shows that it is a different kind of bed and the bars could help him get into bed and stop him from falling out of the bed.

Toys in his beroom, showing what kind of things he is interested in and what kind of persons room this is.

Over all i think i got a few good photographs. When i go back to uni after the holidays i will show my tutors these photographs to get their opinion, but i am thinking that when it comes to my final piece i will use a mixture of these photographs from this photo shoot and the previous photo shoot. The photographs of the objects i think were the strongest in this photo shoot which was something i didn't do in the previous photo shoot and would be good to include into the final piece.
