01/04/12- Sunday afternoon

Today i took some photographs of my last disabled person, who has autism, something which i am very familiar with as my sister has this and she was the person who inspired me to do my project on the disabled people. I only had today to photograph this woman as she won't be around for the rest of easter. I didn't feel they went as well as the photographs of the boy with down's syndrome or the man with leprosy, but thought i got a few ok shots, but probably won't be using these photographs i took today as final photographs. At least i have had a shot at it and i can evaluate these photographs to say why i don't think they are as strong as other photo shoots i have done. Below are some of the photographs i took.

One of the first photographs i took was a picture of this chair. When i first came round to the persons house she was sitting in the garden in this chair. My tutors had suggested that i take some photographs of things such as the chair the person is sitting in to show the background around it and also to give you a bit more information about the person, where they like to sit before you actually see their face.

A close up photograph of just her face, but it shows her features of her face more closely, but is slightly blurred.

As with the man and the boy i photographed i wanted to photograph this woman doing something that sh enjoys doing and does on a regular basis. I went into her room where i noticed she had a jigsaw out and started to photograph her moving pieces of the puzzle. I thought that taking some hand shots would work quite well because they seemed to when i worked with the man with leprosy. It was quite hard to get the depth of field because she wasn't keeping very still.

A photograph of her knitting, which is something that she told me that she enjoys doing. I thought this shot worked quite well she is in focus, and she looks like she is enjoying herself, and unlike the first person i photographed she wasn't just sitting there, but she was actually doing something at the same time.

A close up shot of her knitting, but unfortunately it turned out blurry, but you can see that it works quite nicely, it shows a bit more detail in what she is doing.

One with her face in this time, still a bit blurry but it shows the deep concentration when knitting, which makes the photograph look more natural.

I think this one works better than the previous hand shot as it is a bit more focused, but still slightly blurry.

As well as photographing objects such as chairs like my tutors suggested i also took some of just objects which were on her bed, it shows what kind of things she is interested in and tells you more about the person.

To show that this person is disabled i thought that it would be a good idea to photograph the facilities she needs to get around. This was a handle on her bed which helps her climb into bed.

Again a chair which she uses in the shower, as she is unable to stand up for long periods of time, but it shows the disability without showing the person.

In my second photo shoot that i did with the woman who has osteoporosis i took a photograph of her wheelchair that was out of focus. Originally i didn't think it worked very well but when i showed it to my tutors they said that they really liked it because it shows that people don't always consider disabled people in life and it makes you look harder in the photograph, so i took this photograph of the armchair that she was sitting in.

This woman was telling me about her day care centre that she goes to and said that she does a bit of gardening, and as it was a nice day i took the oportunity to take some photographs of her watering some plants, you can't see her hand very well but it is quite a natural looking environment and shows the background.
