Last night i met up with a photographer who is friends of my mums. Up until last night different people were telling me different things on how to take a photo using depth of field. This made me confused and by explaining to the photographer what i wanted to do, he was able to sit down with me and explain the settings on my camera in depth and tell me what the ISO does, what aperture i should have the camera at to create depth of field and also what setting i should have it on. Other things he mentioned was to give a mini interview to the people i am taking photographs of, ask them where would they like to sit, is there anything that they may want to wear which means something to them, do they want anything in the background which may show what kind of person they are. Because i am taking photographs of the people in their own home the photographer pointed out that i must make them feel comfortable, let them sit where they want to sit. Some of the people i will be photographing may be in a wheelchair, or pushchair and he told me to take a variety of different shots, with them sitting in the wheelchair or whatever it may be, but also take some in for example their armchair which they may be more comfortable in. He made a point that i should take both full body length shots and also facial shots so i can see what works better. Also take as many photos as possible, at least two of the same shot, and get them to perhaps turn their face in different positions, to again get different images. Learning all of these things has definitely made me more confident with using my camera, and hopefully when i take the first series of photographs tomorrow, i will have a good outcome. Throughout this project i will be sending the photographs to the photographer to get opinions from him about the photographs.
